what do you think the shopping image of New York is? from a tourists persepective Rate Topic: -----

Destination image: an individuals awareness, knowledge, perceptions on a destination before or after visiting it these may be true or false and are based upon opinion

I am doing a study on New Yorks destination image and would like to know what people think its shopping/fashion image is from a tourists persepctive or a locals perspective and why they would have this image. Whether it be through watching Sex in the City to the devil wears prada or from watching documentaries, the news or hearing friends talk about it please tell me everything you think of New York's shopping/fashion destination image whether good or bad!

I think destination shopping in NYC is mostly about fashion shopping. A lot of people buy electronics, still, I suppose, but that trade must be moving to online purchases. Clothes and shoes have sizes and testing the fit is an important reason to shop "bricks and mortar". NYC also has an indigenous fashion industry, and when you go to a "sample sale" what you're buying are in many cases actual buyer's samples, or even prototypes or test runs of clothes that were never produced or never sold retail. Also, NYC has no sales tax on clothes or shoes purchases below USD$110, one relief when the sales tax is 8.875% on everything else.

NYC is the biggest destination in the world for shopping. You have heard of 5th Ave. right?
