has any body ever taken a gap year from their work and travelled the world for a year?

I am currently looking into this possibility....something i have always wanted to do, so i am hoping to get a years secondment from my job and hope it will be here for me once i get back....a chance i will have to take!

So far my trip looks like this:

First stop Delhi, head south and out of Madras
Madras to Dubai (stopover)
Up to Beijing
Down to Hong Kong
Singapore
Thailand
Vietnam
Cambodia
Australia
Fiji
New Zealand
South America (into Argentina, out of Rio)
London
Aberdeen

This is sounds like on insane trip man. If I did something like that, i would skip the India and Vietnam parts.
