Blog A View From The Hook points us to Redhook Green, an upcoming Garrison Architects-designed building in, yup, Red Hook that purports to be New York City's first "zero energy building." That is, it gets the energy it needs from renewable sources like solar and wind power. Sounds neat, but what does such a building look like? Or should the question be, what does such a building look like in what one local artist calls "residustrial" Red Hook? The archibabble answers: "The form of the house is inspired by the shipping containers stacked along the adjacent waterfront. Modular units, proportioned similarly to shipping containers are stacked and shifted to create a variety of terraces and overviews to take advantage of the areas amazing harbor views." Inside, the 4,000-square-foot building will have a studio/workshop, offices, garages, and an apartment, all scheduled for completion next summer.

Garrison Architects has offered modular dormitory for Pratt. What's your opinion on that? http://www.garrisonarchitects.com/
