Lazzara's pizza on 38th street between 7th and 8th. It's really hidden place where you need to sit down and order whole or half pie but its well worth it, if you there with a company.

Grimaldi's in Brooklyn under the Brooklyn Bridge is the BEST pizza I've ever had. It's amazing and everything is made fresh. Only thing is there is always a line to the place, and you have to get a pie, no slices. Totally worth it tho as it's so good, that I could eat a whole pie. One slice is not enough. It is a MUST go to pizza place is you ever visit NYC. Lots of celebrities have been there too. The place is decorated with photos of celebrities with signatures.

Obviously a post by a person who never ate at Lazarra's pizza before.

I may sound very silly here, but what is the difference between pizza and pie?

Pie is 8 slices round thing. Pizza is a dough+sauce+cheese cut in slices.

I would have to agree with Tantalus, Grimaldi's is one of the best.

Nonono.. A pizza can be called a pizza pie. Or pie for short. Pie can also mean like a pastry pie..like cherry pie or pumpkin pie. A whole pie vs a slice of a pie.

Can't go wrong with John's Pizza in the village. Opened in 1927, and still rocking. No slices though so you need to order a whole pie.. you'll be glad you did!

As long as it doesn't look too sleazy, I'll have to say that pizza in nyc taste pretty good all throughout.

Be wary of owners who pick their noses outside though. (Personal experience.)

Here are some more suggestions:

I like Sam's of Brooklyn...real old style...you have to sit down and eat the pie there..they don't do slices!

Generalizing like that is dangerous. ;)

A friend grabbed a slice from a patisserie on Times Square yesterday night on our way to the Roger Daltrey show at the Nokia Theater Times Square, and he said the slice was crummy, as he feared.

I think I haven't had a notably bad slice at any pizza parlor, but you can certainly get poor pizza at a bakery, especially if it's been sitting around since that morning.
