If you have been the city for more than 2 months than by now you should have seen uho's tables up everywhere. I will tell you how this program works once i tell you you will never want to give to a UHO member again.

Here's my knowledge of this organization.

I came into contact with this organization when my girlfriend lost her job. she began to work the tables at uho. I even worked the tables 2 or 3 times, but never liked doing.

ok here is the juicy stuff how this program works. UHO works in zones. Most of the time the zones are UNION SQUARE AREA, 34TH STREET AREA, TIMES SQUARE AREA, AND 59TH ST AREA. UHO MEMBERS WORK THE TABLE VIA 3 SHIFTS 8:00am to 01:00 pm, this shift is for all areas. 1:00pm to 6:00pm all areas. 6:00pm to 11:00pm.

The members are basicly trained to refine thier pitch, it is basicly like selling donations. Each UHO member has a bottle. It is true most UHO members are formally homeless or homeless themselves. At the end of the day UHO members get to keep all the money in the bottle minus 15 dollars. Some members walk away with two or 3 hundred each day. So the piddley 15 dollar doesn't hurt them a bit. While others make as little as 2 or 3 dollars, this means they are in the whole and they owe the organization the fee that they charge. Now imagine this being homeless and being told you have to give up all your hard earned 8 bucks to cover the 15 dollar fee. And on top of that you still owe the orgination 7 bucks.

Most homeless people quit after two days.

UHO has no uniforms, and as a result there are phony uho members working the bottles and pay no fee. These people are hustliing from the real UHO members. You can't tell who is legitmate and who is phony, becuz the phony people have the same liscences by way of theft that the real ones do.
also THey pay no 15 dollar fee, meaning your donation just went to a hustler.

Also UHO has done nothing to keep UHO members safe.

Bottles have been stolen, by former UHO members, or phony uho members
A uho lady was recently mugged on 14th by whole foods market. 5 THUGS beat up and took her bottle.

sorry moderation plz move my post to scams

That is not right (that they do this, not that you are wrong) in the least. I have worked and talked with homeless people and the majority I have spoken to are down and out because of broken homes. That is why I feel family is soo important...you should stick together and help your own :) You never what is in store for you and God forbid something horrible happens, you must support people in their time of need.

Have a great day!

Yes I agree with you totally Daniel! Most homeless are not homeless because they are lazy. Its because of unfortunate events that happen in their life. Wether loss of Job or what have you. It's so sad and yes we should all have empathy for one day..It just might be us. :(

"Legit" operators have to give $15 to the UHO, which does absolutely nothing for the homeless that I know of...but at least most of them give you a show for your money, and I have no qualms against THAT. There's a lot more scammers out there than the UHO...the dudes in the suits that only need a QUARTER to get on the train to go to a job interview? I KNOW one of them who makes $300 a day for five hour's work!
