Just arrived back from Pacific nation Fiji. It has suffered economic hardship since it's first coup back in 1987 and subsequent years which deposed its monarchy, nonetheless it's a paradise Must Do! for travellers wanting to detox from their usual drudgery and take a break from it all with total relaxation in sun-filled days on the beaches. Accommodation, island tours, food and non perishable items to suit every budget. Recommend travel with insect repellant for evening mosquitoes. Best to arrange own transportation from the airport to local accommodation either cab/taxi or car hire. Hotel transfers are more expensive and charge a cab fare per passenger - e.g. $20 pp. 3 people = $60 versus regular taxi off the ranks would be $20 to transport 3 passengers. For personalized clothing, Fijian tailors are second to none! It's the same as if you're in Hong Kong or Singapore, payment and measurements can be made in the morning for suits, shirts etc., and your outfit will be ready for pick up by the afternoon. Haggling is acceptable practice. Tipping is not part of Fijian culture but if you're happy with any service, it's always good to show your appreciation. Check with your local travel agent for the many good deals available year round. Travel to Fiji is serviced by airlines Air New Zealand and Air Pacific. Website: http://www.airnz.co.nz
